From the moment you enter
Casa Fantastica you walk into tropical luxury. This Manuel Antonio, Costa
Rica villa has seven bedrooms with seven full and three half bathrooms.
Boasting one of the best and secluded views in Manuel Antonio, it is a rare gem
in the world of luxury homes. Casa Fantastica, completed in 2009, is a "Tropical
Modern” style resort home that was built by owners that have designed,
constructed, and managed the premier rental homes in Manuel Antonio. After eight
years of catering to their customer's needs, they built the best, and most
desirable vacation home in the area; one that would meet all their customer's
expectations, and a little more.
The view that surrounds this setting is nothing less than spectacular. The
rainforest is below, stretching to the beach and the Pacific Ocean, which is
decorated with the Manuel Antonio National Park Islands and Cathedral Point
Peninsula. This huge view is one of the most secluded in the area; there are no
other nearby homes or buildings.
Past the white stone and steel wall of the private parking, is a cascading,
terrazzo stair that curves through a large, Bermuda grass lawn. A white wall
arcs around the yard creating a backdrop to an enormous driftwood trunk and root
– the real jungle gym. Towering above are two, bamboo-ceiling roofs that cover
the two wings, and 8,000 sq. feet of living space. Thru the wall of windows,
fragments of the Pacific Ocean can be seen.
Next to the front door is a wall
of water, evocative of the ocean, and molded to mimic the undulating forms of
the local “Tico” roofs. The water falls first onto a finger freshening slab,
inlaid with an ancient fossilized nautilus, and then spills into a
beach-cleaning foot bath below. The 300 lb. rare Almendro wood door glides open
to reveal a small water garden of papyrus plants. They frame the spectacular
view and are set into an oval, glass bottomed pond that offers a glimpse into
the game room below.
The 10,000 square foot, 3 level,
7 bedroom home is divided into two wings. The materials used are glass, rare
woods, travertine marble, limestone, terrazzo, custom ceramic tiles, stucco,
stainless steel, and copper. The entry level hosts a Grand Salon, 2 outdoor
living rooms, 12 seat dining room, outdoor dining area for an additional 12,
large bar, 2 half baths, BBQ, gourmet kitchen, a huge Jacuzzi, and a hotel size
pool with beach entry and infinity edge. Very large parties can be hosted in
this spectacular yet comfortable space. The upper level has three master
bedrooms, covered balconies, and one master suite. The lower level has a game
room, a gym, a cinema, three luxury bedrooms, and 4 and a half baths. The
cinema, gym and all the bedrooms are air conditioned.
To the left of the entrance is the dining room which has travertine marble and
"disappearing” walls. The views are of the garden, the pool and the ocean. A
round, granite, dining table is 6 feet across, and has 12 celadon leather-backed
chairs. There are two, similar granite tables that seat an additional 12 pool
side, and can be relocated for large parties. The dining area is separated from
the kitchen by a cabinetry wall with an open window that lets you glimpse the
house’s private French chef in action.
The kitchen has granite, stainless steel, and Almendro wood counters, with
custom cabinets inset with perforated stainless steel. The appliances are
restaurant quality, including a large oven, six burner stove, big microwave, 3
sinks, dish washer, large refrigerator-freezer, beverage fridge and 20 bottle
wine cooler. The view from the large sink is of the jungle valley, from the
stove you look to the ocean and pool where there is a double sized BBQ. The
kitchen is designed for catering large parties and is equipped with plenty of
flatware, glasses, and dishes. A private chef is always available.
The Salon also has ceiling fans and window walls that disappear to allow for the
constant sea breezes. At 1,000 sq. feet, the room is ample in size to provide a
large group with either cozy shelter in the event of tropical rains, or just
deep shade in the afternoon. There is a 15 foot, leather, faux crocodile, topped
bar with seating for 8, a glass fronted fridge, sink, flat screen TV, and DVD
player, stereo system with iPod dock, four sofas, 7 generous club chairs, and a
marble topped card table with 4 chairs. The room has three wonderful views. One
side is 30 feet above the jungle floor and has floor to ceiling glass windows
looking into the trees. This is front row seating for the rainforest and all its
fabulous wildlife. Another side looks across the garden, and interior stair. In
the front, 25 feet of windows completely open to the pool and ocean.
Ten foot glass doors “disappear”
(slide) into a wall, and open the kitchen and the dining room onto one of the
two covered outdoor living rooms. Cooled by ocean breezes and overhead fans,
these are the most popular oases in the house. There is an oversized modular
sofa, and deep lounge chairs. The pool water sparkles in reflection across the
bamboo ceiling that is 25 feet above. Three enormous eucalyptus columns soar up
to copper surrounds inlaid in the ceiling. You can cross the beach to the
western side of the house either by wading thru the shallow water of the beach,
or by dry land. Here is another outdoor, covered living room with ceiling fan,
sofa and chairs. It is located between the “beach” and a lovely glass fronted
grand salon.
The upper floor of the eastern side houses the master suite. The large double
doors, set with Philippine, crushed bamboo panels open to a room with travertine
marble, and frosted glass walls that enhance a panoramic view of the ocean,
beaches and jungle. There is a leather, king sized bed, large bar with fridge,
sink, coffee maker, and blender, a dressing area, a vanity, and a big balcony
with lounge chairs and ottomans. The bed is dressed in 500 count Egyptian cotton
sheets, and has both feather and hypo-allergenic pillows. A safe is provided for
valuables.
The spa-like master bath is one of a kind, and quite unforgettable. The western
wall is all glass and showcases the view of ocean, beach, and islands. Opposing,
concrete lavatory slabs are inlaid with fossils, and set like an island in the
center of the room. Up two steps is a platform shower that has a large, rain
showerhead, hanging from the bamboo ceiling, 12 feet above. The water runs over
the green glass tile edge into pebbles that surround the dais. Opposite, is the
enormous custom, oval, Jacuzzi bath, made of turquoise, glass tiles. The bath is
supplied with tropical soaps and bathrobes. There is a separate toilet and bidet
with its own spectacular view of the valley.
On the western side of the top level are three large bedrooms, all with king
beds, large closets, Jacuzzi tubs with shower, marble and limestone baths, and
shared outdoor balconies. Two of the bedrooms have ocean views and two have
jungle views. All the beds have 500 count Egyptian cotton sheets and feather and
hypo-allergenic pillows. Tropical soap, bathrobes, and steel safes are provided.
On the western side of the lower
level are three more large, jungle view bedrooms. These rooms are 20 feet above
the rainforest floor and are wonderful for viewing monkeys and birds. Two
bedrooms have king size beds and one has two twins, and a twin sized day bed.
(Two of the twins can be made into a comfortable king.) All the baths have large
custom tiled showers, and two feature waterfall sinks. The beds have 500 count
Egyptian cotton sheets and feather and hypo-allergenic pillows. Tropical soaps
and bathrobes are provided as well as steel safes.
During the day, the space is enhanced by an oval of shimmering light, which
moves across the floor and walls - reflected from the glass bottomed pond above.
The room has a regulation-size pool table, air hockey, foosball, ping pong,
darts, flat screen TV, and is surrounded on one side with banquette seating and
ocean view.
The gym is 500 square feet and hosts 2 stationary bikes, an electronic
treadmill, dial weights, universal machine, mats, and ball. Large windows
overlook the jungle valley, and two sides are mirrored. There is also a massage
table, and space for private training, yoga or Pilates classes.
The theater has a digital projector, sound system, deep sofa seating for 30, a
large fridge, and microwave for popcorn and other snacks. It features a custom
purple ceramic floor, and hand blown amber sconces. The property managerment
office maintains a library of classic and current films. Newly released films
can be rented in nearby Quepos.
Beyond the pond is a curved,
infinity edge, beach entry pool, 18 meters long, 10 meters wide. It is one of
the largest private pools in the country. There is a magnificent view of the
national park and its islands. A row of upholstered lounge chairs rest in the
shallow water of the “beach”. The top of a 30 foot palm tree sways next to a 20
person, warm water, Jacuzzi that spills over into the pool.
Casa Fantastica has two housekeepers who care for the home 6 days a week and
will see to all your cleaning needs, including personal laundry. There is a
gardener and pool man, and a handyman on 24 hour call. A private chef is
available. The property management is at your disposal 24 hours a day during
your vacation. The concierge and host are available to help make your dream
vacation come true. Not only can they arrange tours, transportation, chef, and
in house spa services, but they are also very knowledgeable of the Manuel
Antonio area and can answer any questions you may have.
The wildlife here is abundant.
Monkeys are almost daily visitors, and you can count on seeing at least one of
the three local species, be it the Titis, Howlers, or White Faced. Small mammals
such as sloth and kinkachoos, multitudes of butterflies, and exotic birds to
thrill an ornithologist are all included. The owner of Casa Fantastica also owns
an acre of the undeveloped and developed land that surrounds most of the villa.
They entire area is planted with species that encourage wildlife visits. Gardens
are planted with exotic, tropical specimens and line the public ways.
