Located on the Central Pacific
coast of Costa Rica, Castillo de Esparza is a secluded mountaintop estate
is located just an hour and a half from the San Jose Airport. Complete with ten
bedrooms, large pool and Jacuzzi, and tennis courts, the property overlooks the
blue Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Nicoya, which provide a stunning backdrop for
Costa Rica’s famed sunsets.
Built for the Countess of Baillet-Latour, this spacious nine-acre estate is
known locally as El Castillo de Esparza. This elegant residential compound with
extraordinarily lush grounds offers over 43,000 square feet of buildings
offering privacy and a host of activities for your family or group.
The manor house and guest house are fully air-conditioned. The pool is
surrounded by an expansive deck with chairs, tables and lounges for all. The
pool house is a convenient place to relax and offers facilities for dinners or
barbecues for up to twenty people.
The luxuriously landscaped grounds include not only a waterfall but also
numerous fountains that create an air of leisure and relaxation. There are many
activities within the compound, including tennis, golf chipping and putting,
croquet, bocci ball and more.
El Castillo is centrally located so that you can easily travel for deep sea
fishing, surfing, traversing a canopy tour through the rain forest, visiting a
live volcano, shopping the local Costa Rican artisans and craftsman, white water
rafting, visiting casinos and restaurants or playing golf.
Upon entering, you immediately experience the magnificence of what is to come.
The marble entryway leads to an expansive open cocktail seating areas with piano
that flows toward a double, winding staircase to the Library, Bar, and Poolroom.
Another wide, central staircase leads downward to the massive living room.
The beautiful 3,100 sq.ft. living room has a herringbone Cristobal wood floor,
echoing the Cristobal wood cupola three stories overhead. As with all the rooms
in the manor house, there are many antiques to admire.
Screened cathedral windows with European brass latches, arched doorways and
windows, and interior doors of solid hand carved Cristobal wood embellish the
elegant and generous living areas. Both marble and custom imported tile, enhance
the bathrooms which are additionally accented with European brass and gold
fixtures.
On this lower level, relax with cocktails or a game of chess. On the upper level
of the main living room, you can play a game of pool or play cards on the Black
Jack table.
The left wing of the Manor House provides many areas for your entertainment. In
this game room, you can play cards at the poker table or find a selection of
board games (including Taboo and Balderdash) to play. Also, you can connect to
the Internet to check your e-mail.
Continuing down the left wing of the Manor House is the Media Room. There is
plenty of seating in the Media Room ranging from plushy chairs and loungers to
recliners."
Enjoy a fantastic meal in the Pool House while listening to soothing music. The
poolside barbeque house has a full kitchen and barbeque fireplace. It's the
perfect place to have a casual BBQ after an eventful day of activities.
Within the Manor House, five
extraordinary guest rooms and suites, all completely ensuite, accommodate 10
individuals. Residing in the right wing of the manor house are the Master Suite
and an adjacent bedroom. The left wing is home to the large VIP suite as well as
two private ensuite bedrooms.
The Master Suite
is 2,621 sq. ft. that features a king bed and sitting area. Set apart from the
other guest rooms, a feeling of seclusion and privilege enhance your stay. The
suite contains beautiful appointments along with antiques, wood framed arched
entryways, and carved wood cabinetry, ubiquitous to the manor house. The Master
Bath is 1,100 sq. ft. European tiled bath is split into three sections. The main
area features dual sinks and a large circular sunken pool tub; to the right is a
large private dressing area; to the left is a separate room containing a large
shower, a toilet, and bidet.
The VIP suite manages a
privileged and yet unpretentious feeling. The large bedroom area contains a king
bed as the focal point of the room surrounded with beautiful European antiques.
The adjacent sitting/dressing room is enhanced with tall cathedral windows and
vaulted ceiling. The impressive floor-to-ceiling carved wooden built-in closets
will easily accommodate all of your personal belongings. The large arched
windows allow you to further appreciate the tropical surroundings of this
beautiful property. The spacious bathroom includes a full bath, tub, and bidet.
The two ensuite
bedrooms share similar luxurious appointments as the VIP suite. Wooden floors,
floor-to-ceiling carved wooden closets,
and your own private bathrooms serve to offer a sublime retreat.
The 2,700 sq.ft. South Guest
House contains three unique guest rooms. The structure surrounds an interior
courtyard with fountain. The covered commons room has a mini bar and
kitchenette, and it also features a TV with satellite coverage, as well as a DVD
player. Each of the three bedrooms have inlayed parquet floors, built-in
Cristobal cabinets, arched windows, and a bath with shower and toilet.
The South Guest House is located up a path leading from the pool area, giving
its guests prime location for the day's activities.

the foyer.
The recently
modified guest house is located on the north side of the Manor House. Four
bedrooms are linked by means of a common courtyard. Three of these rooms feature
queen-sized beds, while the fourth has two twin-sized beds. All rooms have an
ensuite bathroom with shower, sink, and toilet, except the southwest room with
features a kitchenette.
La Torreta is a three-story Tower Studio set apart from the Manor House.
Overlooking the golf greens, it allows additional seclusion for meditation or
end of day reflection. It has recently been remodeled, now providing further spa
facilities, including exercise machines, a large Jacuzzi, and showers on the
ground level. The second floor is perfect for a quiet massage during the day, or
music and cocktails during the evening. On the third floor, there is a
spectacular view of the towns below and the Gulf of Nicoya. It is a perfect
place to get closer to the stars.
Guests can wind down at the end of the day with a professional massage on the
second floor of La Torreta. Nothing is more relaxing!! Also available are
manicures and pedicures and other spa services.
